Matthias Eibinger overcame a field of 58 entries to win the 2019 European Poker Tour Monte Carlo €50,000 single-day no-limit hold’em high roller event, earning €844,080 ($945,370 USD) as the champion.

This was the second largest score of the Austrian poker pro’s career, and it brought his lifetime live tournament earnings to $5,972,906. He is the second highest earning tournament player from Austria, behind only Thomas Muehloecker ($7.4 million).

In addition to the title and the money, Eibinger was also awarded 510 Card Player Player of the Year_ points for the win. This was his second final-table finish of 2019. The win was enough to see him move inside the top 200 in the overall POY rankings, which are sponsored in 2019 by Global Poker.

The 58-entry turnout in this event built a €2,813,580 ($3,151,210 USD) prize pool, which was awarded to the top eight finishers. When the field was narrowed down to the final nine, just one elimination from the $126,045 money bubble bursting, a number of the remaining players had seen their stacks dwindle to just a handful of big blinds. Michael Soyza was the shortest among them, having just half of a big blind when the following hand arose: With blinds of 15,000-30,0000 and a big-blind ante of 30,000, Daniel Dvoress moved all-in for 110,000 from under the gun with QHeart SuitQClub Suit. Seth Davies shoved behind him for 115,000 from the cutoff holding AClub SuitKClub Suit. Alex Foxen looked down at ASpade SuitADiamond Suit on the button and made the call. Everyone else got out of the way, and the board came down KHeart Suit10Club Suit7Spade SuitJSpade SuitJHeart Suit to secure the double knockout for Foxen.

With that Dvoress was eliminated on the bubble, while Davies was awarded $126,045 USD as the eighth-place finisher. The very next hand Soyza was eliminated, earning $160,709 USD for seventh place.

The next big confrontation saw Wai Leong Chan move all-in for around 15 big blinds from the small blind. Eibinger called with the QSpade Suit10Heart Suit in the big blind and was ahead of his opponent’s 8Heart Suit6Heart Suit. The board improved neither player and Chan was eliminated in third place ($441,168 USD).

Foxen started heads-up play with 3,220,000 to Eibinger’s 2,580,000. Despite the relatively close stacks, the match didn’t last long. Eibinger won the first pot to overtake the lead. On the third hand of heads-up Eibinger limped in from the button for 80,000 with ADiamond SuitJHeart Suit. Foxen moved all-in for 1,755,000 holding 4Heart Suit4Diamond Suit. Eibinger called and the board brought the QDiamond SuitJSpade Suit9Diamond Suit5Spade Suit8Club Suit and Eibinger paired his jack on the flop to secure the pot and the title.

European Poker Tour Calendar 2019
